1. National Day Fireworks & Open-Air Shows on the Waterfront

Date: Wednesday, September 2, 2026 (the 81st National Day), with programming across the surrounding long weekend.

Price: Free. Public shows and fireworks cost nothing; themed cruises and rooftop tables are ticketed.

Location: Nguyen Hue Walking Street and the Bach Dang waterfront (District 1) for the main art program and high-altitude fireworks; Dam Sen Cultural Park (District 11) for a separate low-altitude fireworks, laser, and water-music show.

Scale

The single biggest civic date on Vietnam's calendar. Per the city's announced plans, a large-scale evening art program with hundreds of performers is staged on Nguyen Hue and ends with a roughly 15-minute high-altitude fireworks display, while Dam Sen runs its own combined fireworks-laser-water show.

What it brings to you

High-altitude fireworks over the Saigon River, viewable across much of District 1.

An open-air music-and-dance program on Nguyen Hue with hundreds of performers.

A separate low-altitude fireworks, laser, and water-music spectacle at Dam Sen Cultural Park.

Flags, banners, and a citywide long-weekend buzz.

What this means

National Day is Saigon at its most publicly patriotic — the one night the whole city turns out to watch the sky. For a visitor it is a free, high-energy spectacle, and a rare chance to feel the modern national identity of a city most people still call by its old name.

Notes & Tips

Stake out a river-facing spot on Nguyen Hue or the Bach Dang bank an hour early  crowds are heavy.

A rooftop bar along Nguyen Hue trades the crush for a clear fireworks view.

Exact venues and start times are confirmed close to the date via official city channels (HCMC Department of Culture & Sports, tphcm.chinhphu.vn)  check before you go.

It is a public holiday: expect domestic travel to spike and some services to run holiday hours.

2. Tet Trung Thu — Mid-Autumn Festival & the Lantern Street

Date: Friday, September 25, 2026 (the 15th day of the 8th lunar month). Lantern Street is decorated and busy for two to three weeks beforehand roughly early-to-late September.

Price: Free to walk and watch. Lanterns, mooncakes, and toys are inexpensive.

Location: Luong Nhu Hoc Street in Cho Lon (District 5) the city's main "Lantern Street" plus mooncake shops and lion-dance troupes citywide.

Scale

Saigon's most photogenic autumn festival. Luong Nhu Hoc is the epicenter: a Chinese-community lane with a long lantern-making tradition that turns into a river of light and color in the weeks around the festival.

What it brings to you

Hundreds of handmade silk and paper lanterns  carp, stars, and classic shapes packed along Luong Nhu Hoc.

Lion and dragon dances (mua lan) in the streets, especially on weekend evenings.

Mooncake stalls and toy vendors; a festival that is very much for children and families.

One of the best street-photography nights of the Saigon year.

What this means

Trung Thu is Vietnam's children's-and-family festival, and Cho Lon's lantern street is where the city goes to feel it. Because it is a cultural (not public) holiday, life runs as normal  you get the full festival atmosphere without the travel chaos of a national day off.

Notes & Tips

Go on a weekday evening if you can  weekend nights on Luong Nhu Hoc are shoulder-to-shoulder.

Dress light and expect crowds; it is a walking, browsing, snacking kind of night.

Buy mooncakes from a longtime bakery (Cho Lon has several) for the real thing.

August is Osaka at full summer voltage. The rainy season is gone, the heat has settled in, and the city answers with fire and water: one of the largest fireworks displays on Earth on August 1, a thousand-year-old shrine festival that closes the summer matsuri season, and — mid-month — the lantern-lit calm of Obon, when the whole country turns toward its ancestors.

Taipei sneaks up on you. It's quieter than you expect. Then a night market opens, a temple lights up, and someone at the next foosball table asks where you're headed tomorrow. Most people land here and lose day one just figuring out which MRT exit to take. You don't have to. This is the itinerary we hand our own guests, the one that turns five short days into the trip you keep talking about back home.

September is the month Taipei exhales. Ghost Month is over, the worst heat starts to lift, and the calendar builds toward the Mid-Autumn Festival on September 25 a public-holiday long weekend of full moons, mooncakes, and the smoke of a thousand rooftop barbecues. The city wraps it in the Chill Out Festival, its most laid-back live-music weekend, staged along the riverside. Typhoon season is still live, so keep plans flexible.
